Kings face Cowboys in Saturday 1 p.m. clashIt always feels good after a victory, and in the words of Kings’ coach McHatton, “this one felt especially good.” On Saturday, when the Kings football squad defeated the Westside Panthers, 19-6, they proved history doesn’t always repeat itself. The win over Westside puts the Kings in the championship game against the Cowboys at 1 p.m. this Saturday. The loss to the Kings was Westside’s first of the season. The game was nip and tuck with both teams holding each other in check until quarterback Kaelin Deboskie and Jordan Robinson connected for a 30-yard touchdown strike on the Kings’ fourth possession. The Kings put six more points on the board in the first half and headed into the locker room with a 13-0 lead. Westside’s potent offense was held in check during the first half by a stingy Kings’ defense led by Deboskie, Jamian Maes and Tristen Daniel. It was more of the same in the second half, as the Kings’, riding the 13-0 lead, kept it conservative and turned to the running game of Amonai Itaaehau. Itaaehau controlled the game in the second half as he racked up almost 100 yards rushing. Saturday’s appearance in the championship game is the by far the biggest game in the clubs 3 year history. |

For the Junior Kings football team, the 2007 season has been full of injuries and winning games after trailing in the first half. The Cardinals were too much to handle for the Kings building a 33-0 halftime advantage on their way to a 42-6 win to catapult them into the play-offs. Although the Kings Football team will miss the playoffs this season, Kings Owner Kenny King wants his team to finish the season strong. "We really try to base our program on more than wins and losses," King said. "It's our commitment to each other." The Kings have a Bowl Game this Saturday at Rhodes against a (4-5) Rowdies team; they both have the same record so it should be a great game! Go Kings!!! |

All too often, "instant classics" become instant duds. But then you have those games that live up to the hype. That was the case Saturday night at jam-packed Apollo High Stadium, where the West Side Panthers out slugged the undefeated Kings Club from the East Side 25-19 "They did not play mistake-free football," Kings coach Abe McHatton said. "We made two mistakes and that was the difference in the game. That's probably the best peewee team we have faced since I have been here." To start the second half the Panthers kicked off to Kaelin Deboskie and he took the kick-off to the house 48 yards to give the Kings a 12-6 lead. Defensively the Kings were sharp, but they did give up a key play in the 3rd. which could have been the difference, the Panthers fumbled and when everyone was scrambling to pick up the ball the Panthers # 10 grabbed it and took it 56 yards to go up 13-12. Raymond and Amonai of the Kings were “Lightning and Thunder” running the ball, they both had a great game! Deboskie had a great passing night hitting Encinas 3 times for 30 yards and a long strike to big play Robinson for the final Kings score. In the end the turnovers proved to be costly and even though the Kings mounted a great comeback, the clock ran out leaving this classic to be a grudge match if these two teams happen to square off in the play-offs. The Kings end a phenomenal regular season with a record of 7 and 1 and a 3rd. place seed in this weeks play-offs. They play the West Side Rhinos Saturday afternoon. GO KINGS!!! |
