The Junior got off to a slow start. The Sabercats scored twice in the first half and converted on one of the two extra point attempts. Edwards (#24) came up with an interception in the first half and turned it into a 10 yard run. The Kings scored one touchdown in the first half on a completed pass from Deboskie (#7) to Edwards (#24) that Deboskie threw over the defender on the left sideline that he caught and then ran into the end zone. It was an awesome pass. The Kings were unable to convert on the extra point. After the touchdown the Kings did an onside kick that Larimore (#27) recovered right before halftime. However, Sabercats were able to intercept a pass and then time ran out in the first half, so the score at half time was Sabercats 13, Kings 6. At the start of the second half Conley (#77) came up with a huge play on special teams and knocked the Sabercats out of bounds on the kickoff return. The defense came up with several big plays and held the Sabercats offense from getting the first down. Robinson (#33) tackled the Sabercats on their 45 yard line on the 4th to give the King’s offensive the ball. The offense moved the ball down the field and were able to score on a quarterback sneak (Deboskie #7) from the 1 yard line. The defense was able to hold the Sabercats on two more 4th downs, one at the Kings 10 yard line and another was a pass play that was broken up by Edwards (#24). As the King’s offense was backed up on 4th and long, Ahlers (#66) came up with a big 20 yard catch that he turned into a 20 yard run. Cheshier (#18) was able to score the touchdown on a sweep to the outside with approximately 2 minutes to go. This was the go ahead touchdown for the Kings. As the defense took the field Edwards (#24) and Clayton (#51) combined to make a big tackle as the clock wound down. Robinson (#33) was able to break up a Sabercats pass play and then Williams (#12) came up with an interception on the Sabercats 3rd down. The offense went back on the field and took a knee to end the game. Not only did Deboskie take a knee - but the whole offensive line did as well. Final score Kings 18, Sabercats 13 The Kings showed a lot of heart coming back in the second half and turning up the intensity. There were a couple kids unable to play due to injury and illness so the rest of the team had to step up and fill in. The Kings made several big plays on both the offense and defense that helped turn this game around – the team pulled together in the second half, despite many challenging events on the field.
